  • Description

Johann Philipp Wetzke was born around 1705 at Gottleube bei Pirna. Having attended the Kreuzschule in Dresden and then studied Theology at Wittenberg, he became Kantor and Musikdirektor at the Pfarrkirch zu Wittenberg. He died in 1767, leaving no published music.

This short mass consists of settings of the Kyrie and Gloria only, as was the custom in Zerbst. Only on special feasts was a concerted setting of the Credo added - Christmas, Easter and Whitsun; otherwise the Credo was integrated into the service as a chorale.
