Sebastian Knüpfer

Born in what is now the Czech Republic, Knüpfer was educated in Regensburg before moving to Leipzig in 1654. Three years later he applied for the vacant position of Kantor at the Thomaskirche and was successful, remaining in that position until his death in 1676. While much of his music is on a grand scale, some more modest settings having survived.
